EcoPark

EcoPark began when DMTN’s president Van Saka had an idea – to create an outdoor learning environment for students. His idea transformed into a joint endeavor between DMTN and Keep Blount Beautiful that will educate hundreds of Blount County elementary school students at the newly constructed EcoCenter outdoor pavilion. Their eco-education includes storm water pollution prevention, recycling, litter prevention, and other “living green / eco-friendly” topics.

Built near DMTN’s Body Electronics Plant 203, EcoPark also serves as a refuge where native plants, grasses, trees, small wildlife and a variety of birds and insects can flourish. On May 10, 2012, EcoPark welcomed more than 300 students to Waterfest, a community event with learning stations about wetland wildlife and ways to protect the environment. Pictured here, Great Smoky Mountains National Park Ranger Mike Braun engages youth at Waterfest with tips on protecting land and wildlife.
